Nutmeg Yoga LLC’s mission is to connect people to Connecticut’s natural spaces with guided yoga hikes. It’s led by Nicole Diaz, a Latinx Texan-turned-Nutmegger, whose given herself the title “Trail-Guide Yogi” in lieu of the traditional Owner/Founder. Nicole organizes hikes that incorporate yoga, meditation, trail-specific history, awareness of conservation efforts, and education on seasonal flora and wildlife activity. Nicole believes yoga and the outdoors should be accessible to all because both help build a stronger mind, body and spirit of resilience to meet life’s challenges with one breath at a time. Wanting to share her love of yoga with everyone, she completed the 200-hour power yoga teacher training under Barbara Ruzansky at West Hartford Yoga and Wilderness First Aid through Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO) in New Hampshire. Nicole holds 200-RYT Yoga Alliance certification, American Red Cross CPR certification and is pursuing independent study as a Connecticut Master Naturalist. When not leading state-wide yoga hikes, she can be found teaching playful yoga class sequences at VASU studio in Hartford, CT that increases vitality and weaves in an inspirational fact about Connecticut state parks, wildlife, or conservation centers. Off the mat, Nicole can be found outdoors with husband and Boston Terrier Bellatrix Lestrange, cooking for friends, gardening, or exploring the CT beer/wine trail.
